TITLE: HUMAN SERVICE PROFESSIONAL
FACILITY: Mercys Door I, II, & III
STATUS: PART TIME
Definition: The primary responsibility of a Human Service Professional is to provide individual and group counseling services for children in a residential setting including those considered to be at risk and those with special needs. The HSP will advocate for residents and work with other individuals and organizations to promote the academic, career, and personal and social development of children and youths. The HSP will help residents evaluate their abilities, interests, talents, and personality characteristics in order to develop realistic academic and career goals. The HSP will use interviews, counseling sessions, or other methods in evaluating and advising residents.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for completing the intake assessments on all residents admitted to the program.
2. Responsible for writing the 30 day assessment and service plans.
3. Attend all meetings involving the county DFCS staff, school meetings involving the residents, and all court hearings and panel reviews.
4. Provided daily individual time with the residents to access their needs and concerns.
5. Work with families of the children and conduct family group sessions with the families and residents.
6. Observe residents during classroom and play activities and confer with their teachers to evaluate the childrens strengths, problems, or special needs, and assist in developing good study habits.
7. Perform crisis intervention and prevention.
8. Ensure residents safety at all times.
9. Ensure compliance with program rules and policies including, but not limited to, medication policy, and confidentiality statements on case records.
10. All other duties and responsibilities as requested by the Director.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Required: The HSP must have I) a masters degree in behavioral, social science, social work, or a related field with one year paid experience in mental health or human services in the area of child and adolescent services, or II) a bachelors degree in behavioral, social science, social work or a related field and three years paid experience in the human services or mental health field in the area of child and adolescent services.
